CT Patient Preparation Instruction Form

For all CT tests with IV contrast do the following:

  1. If your appointment is first thing in the morning do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your CT test. All other appointments do not eat or drink anything 4 hours prior to the CT test.
  2. Your blood work results (bun/creatinine) must be available 48 hours prior to your CT test. If we do not have your blood work results you will not be able to take the test.

For all CT Tests with oral contrast do the following:

  1. If your appointment is first thing in the morning do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your CT test. All other appointments do not eat or drink anything 4 hours prior to the CT test except the two barium oral contrast drinks provided by this office.
  2. Drink one bottle 2 hours before and the other bottle 1 hour before the test. You will also be given a small cup of contrast during the CT test.
  3. Oral contrast should be kept refrigerated for better taste.

For CT Tests with oral and IV contrast do the following:

  1. If your appointment is first thing in the morning do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your CT test. All other appointments do not eat or drink anything 4 hours prior to the CT test except the two barium contrast drinks provided by this office.
  2. Drink one bottle of contrast 2 hours before and one bottle of contrast 1 hour before the CT test.
  3. Your blood work results (bun/creatinine) must be available 48 hours prior to your CT test. If we do not have blood work results you will not be able to take the test.

NOTE:

If you are diabetic DO NOT TAKE your medication on the day of your CT test and for the next 48 hours after the CT test. Diabetics should not fast for more than two hours. All patients should check with their medical doctor before stopping all medications.

Special Note: Please wear loose fitting comfortable clothes with no metal the day of your CT exam.
