![]() Cystoscopy
Cystoscopy is a procedure performed by a urologist to evaluate a patient's bladder, urethra, and prostate. In this procedure, a cystoscope (thin, telescope-like tube with a light and tiny camera attached) is inserted into the bladder through the urethra (tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body).

It is often necessary to perform a cystoscopy in order to evaluate patients with blood in their urine (a condition known as hematuria). Cystoscopy is also performed to remove stents in patients who have undergone hospital-based urological procedures. There are two methods of performing a cystoscopy. One method utilizes a flexible scope, while the other method utilizes a rigid scope.
