COMMON QUESTIONS REGARDING PROLAPSE SURGERY

Will I be in pain following the procedure?
There will be discomfort similar to menstrual cramps for 2-3 days.

How long will I be in the hospital?
One night.

How long is the surgery?
Ninety minutes.

What type of anesthesia is used?
General

Will I have an incision?
The surgery is performed through the vagina. There will also be a one-inch incision bellow your belly button.

Will I go home with a catheter?
No.

Are there any stitches that need to be removed?
No.

Will my urinary stream be different?
Yes, Initially, the flow may be weak, but this will gradually improve

When can I walk?
You should walk immediately after the surgery and every day thereafter.

Is lifting restricted?
Yes. No more than 10lbs. for 2 weeks after surgery.

When can I shower?
The day after surgery.

When can I drive?
When you are no longer taking pain medication. Usually within a week of surgery.

When can I resume sexual intercourse?
One month.

When can I return to normal activities?
One month.

When can I return to work?
You can return to a desk job in 10 days. Jobs that require lifting/standing for long periods should be avoided for 2 weeks
